Monday, the 21 of November 2011

Now that the nights are drawing in and there is definite chill in the air, I wonder if there is any chance of a snow day soon?????
  • Assembly: There is no college assembly this week due to mock exams.
  • Children in Need:  This was held at lunch time today and went very well, all the cakes were sold out. We are still trying to raise money this week with our ' Guess the Smarties' competition so please encourage people to have a go and take part. We will be putting a notice up on Serco too.
  • Parent Mail: Please keep at it.
  • Student Update: Pupils failing to turn up to Tutor Time at all:  This issue will be discussed in our CAL meeting this week. Val has found a way of accessing this data eaisly so you do not need to worry to keep sending your names through. ( Smile Matt!) I will feedback to you after our meeting, if you have any issues you would like me to raise at this meeting, please let me know.
  • Uniform: Please keep at it, the message about boots is getting through.
  • Achievement points: The College with the most achievement points at the end of this term gets treated to breakfast in the canteen. At the minute we our fifth. Whe I looked at the figures it did start me wondering wheter or not we are actually giving enough achievement points as tutors and a college. I know Donna is brilliant at remembering to do this, she is always giving achievement points for things like uniform, behaviour, punctuality etc. Let's all try to reward as many of our lovely Curie College students as we can between now and Christmas. ( Yes, this includes you too Andy!)
  • My Birthday: Next Week Monday is my Birthday and it is a big one for me this year. Lynne is so keen to celebrate it that I came into work today to a Happy Birthday banner, flowers and chocolates. It was a lovely way to start the week! I will definitely be going down to the A&G on Friday, as it marks the start of the last weekend of my thirties, and it would be lovely to see you there to help me celebrate/commiserate?
Have a good week, in my case it can only be better that last week!

Monday, 14 November 2011

Thank you for all your valuable input in our College meeting last Wednesday, it is much appreciated, and I did raise all the points you mentioned at our CAL's meeting that same afternoon.
  • Assembly: There is no college assembly this week.
  • Children in Need: TThis event is on Friday. The College Captains are going to organise and hold a cake sale on Friday in the bottom of J Block. Kayleigh and Sandra will be coming around to Tutor groups this week to encourage your groups to contribute something to the sale. It would be brilliant if you could help out by pushing this and perhaps putting together a list for your group of who will bring what. We also need posters to advertise this event around the school, so get your groups to be creative!
  • College Meeting: This was held on Wednesday 9/11 in C26. Mintues to follow this week. I did email you all feedback from the Cal meeting but have put it here again in case you missed it:
  • 1)      I mentioned all the issues that you raised today re: RFL and here are the answers. We all agreed to the following:

    ·        If a pupil is on any report (Tutor/ CAL/CAD/ HEAD) you still need to put the appropriate departmental sanctions in place if they are not behaving/ arriving on time to your lessons. This will then be supported by the work being done by the person who is dealing with that pupil’s report.
    ·        Pupils who are sent out of a lesson but refuse department support and end up at their college or ASC still need to be given a departmental detention/sanction which is to set/organised by the teacher who sent them out.
    ·        It is important to let College Assistants know when you put any one on green tutor report and when they need to remove them from Serco. You also need to put their targets on Serco yourself as a pastoral comment.
    ·        It was agreed that no one will be in boots in lessons, even if they have a note. They MUST be out of circulation until they are in the correct uniform.
    ·        The issue of repeat offenders is going to be the only thing on our next CAL meeting, so I will get back to you with more info on this then.

Please can you also let me know by Friday which of your Tutor group you have decided to place on green report and why, so we can flag it up on Serco. Can you also let me know if you have managed to make contact with home/ parents to explain the reasons why you have taken this action. If you have not put anyone on report, I would like to know that too.

  • Parent Mail: You were given a photocopied list at our meeting which will contained all the names of pupils whose parents we still don't have email contact details. Please keep at it.
  • Student Update: The following pupils are now on Orange CAL report: Will Turner, Abi Noble, Miriam Bibi, Shannon Collier, Jenny Smith, Abraham Harris Foster, Isaac Mbaki, Olivia Franklin, Sannah Siddique.  (Harry Gibbs, Asaad Mohammed, Humza Mohammed are also on report but without the cards, I have contacted all their teachers)
  • Pupils failing to turn up to Tutor Time at all:  A descion has been made that these pupils will now make up this time at the end of the day, so they will stay till half three every time they fail to arrive at all to tutor time. Thank you for continuing to help us with this by sending us their names, we are looking into trying to get this information in a more time effective/ reliable way.  Can I also just remind you that if pupils in your tutor group are arriving late to your tutor time more than once a week , they should be doing break/ lunchtime detentions with you to make it up.
  • Uniform: Please remember to do a thorough check of uniform every morning. There are too many girl's trying to get away with boots. Also some boys are trying their luck in terms of their footwear. Please be vigilant as it is really important that we don't let this slide.
Thanks and have a good week

Weekly Bulletin 10/10/2011

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, despite the terrible rugby results. Well done to Wales though, a super effort. As I am half welsh, and the Boks bombed out, I plan on changing my allegiances and backing Andy's boys all the way to the final now!
  • College Meeting: This was held on Wednesday 5/10. Thanks to all of you who attended and for all your helpful ideas and input. Minutes will follow this week.
  • Year 7 Settling In Interviews: Thanks again for the time and effort you put into these meetings. Please follow up with any parents that you have not yet made contact with, as a matter of urgency, this week. If you need help contacting any parents, please let Lynne and I know. Please remember to make a brief note on Serco about your meeting, and alert us if there are any issues that we need to follow up on.
  • Parent Mail: You will find a photocopied list in your register bags this week that will contain all the names of pupils whose parents we still don't have email contact details. Please can you hound them to provide you with a working email adress as soon as possible. There is a prize for the tutor group who gets theirs all in first.
  • College Captains:  It gives me great pleasure to announce that our new Curie College captains for 2011/2012 are:
Senior College Captain: Kayleigh Trendall, C03, Year 11
Assistant Senior College Captain: Sandra Dipate, C05, Year 1
Junior College Captain: Shannon Steepe, C11, Year 9
Assistant Junior College Captain: Jenny Milne, C12, Year 8

The Curie College team is very excited about these appointments and we are all looking forward to working closely with our captains throughout the course of the year. Our new Captains will be introducing themselves to the college at our next assembly
  •  Student Update: I sent copies of this around last week and we discussed some of the pupils on it in our meeting. In conjuntion with the data I sent you today, I think it is a very useful tool not just for us, but also for use in mentoring meetings with pupils as well as in Parental meetings/ evenings.
  • Uniform: Please remember to do a thorough check of uniform and equipment. Keep an eye out for very short skirts, they seem to be creeping in. If you feel unsure or uncomfortable about having this conversation with any of the girls just send them down to us in the office.
  • Inter College Sports: Please register your group tomorrow morning and then bring them down to the lower gym.
Thanks and have a good week!

Weekly Bulletin 3/10/11

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine...
  1. College Meeting: this week on Wednesday 5/10. We will meet in C26 at 2.00pm. Please email me 'Any Other business' you would like to add to the agenda by tomorrow afternoon.
  2. Year 7 Settling in Interviews: These will take place after our meeting on Wednesday. Please follow up with any parents that you have not had a response from tomorrow. If you need help contacting any parents, please let Lynne and I know.
  3. Parent Mail: We need to make a big push on this between now and half term. Lynne has a list of names of names of all the pupils in each tutor group who still have not provided us with an email address. Parent mail is a wonderful tool in terms of keeping the lines of communication with home. We will provide you each with a list of these names on Wednesday, please can you follow up as many as you can.
  4. College Captains: We have had quite a few pupils express interest in these posts, unfortunately (or fortunately?) mainly girls. Please do a final push with your gents tomorrow, anyone interested must see me or Lynne tomorrow. I will be announcing who has been appointed on Wednesday.
  5. Assembly: There is assembly on Wednesday. Please remind your tuttees to come straight to the hall on Wednesday morning. It might be worth leaving a reminder on your door too. Please can you get your tutor groups to put their bags under their chairs and take off all coats/ scarves as soon as they come in, athough if this weather continues there may not be any of those around this week. They must have a cheney sweatshirt on.
  6. Orange Report: I currently have 20 or so pupils on College Report mostly for punctuality. Please can you help out in terms of keeping an eye on these pupils and discussing how they are doing when you get a chance. If youy place a pupil on green report, please remember to make a pastoral note of this on Serco.
  7. Student Update: I am very aware that as of yet I have not sent one of these out yet. I will try and have one ready for us to look at and discuss at our meeting. In future I plan to post these on the Serco bulletin on the Pastoral board. I will show where to find this if you have not seen it already.
  8. Uniform: We are almost there and seem to winning the battle for the most part. Please remember to keep checking your tutor group for this, and for equipment, as often as you can. Also keep an eye out for over the top jewllery, especially earings.
  9. Planners: Please make sure that you are checking and signing these, pupils should have with them everyday. If pupils have nothing in them. challenege them about it and have a discussion as to why. I was thinking that it might be useful to get your sixth formers to help you with this task.
Thanks for all your hard work last week, what with open evening and performance management, I know it was a tiring one. If you need any support with any of your tutees, please just shout. looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
